Rajkot SOG Makes First-Ever Hybrid Cannabis Seizure, Arrests Mumbai Resident

In a significant drug bust, the Special Operations Group (SOG) in Rajkot has seized hybrid cannabis valued at approximately Rs 2.42 lakh and arrested a 26-year-old man. This operation marks the first time such a potent variant of cannabis has been confiscated in the city, highlighting a growing concern over high-value narcotics.

Arrest and Seizure Details

Acting on specific intelligence, SOG sleuths apprehended Dhruv Joshi at JK Chowk in Rajkot. He was allegedly found in possession of 69.38 grams of hybrid cannabis, a drug known for its enhanced potency compared to regular varieties. The swift action by authorities underscores their vigilance in combating drug trafficking networks.

SOG Inspector Sanjaysinh Jadeja provided further insights into the case. Joshi, originally from Mumbai, had been residing in Rajkot for nearly two years. During interrogation, he claimed to have obtained the hybrid ganja from Ahmedabad. However, police are currently verifying these statements, along with investigating the broader supply chain and identifying potential buyers.

Legal Proceedings and Drug Characteristics

A formal case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at the DCB police station. Hybrid cannabis is notably more powerful than traditional cannabis, capable of producing intense effects even in small quantities. This makes it a particularly dangerous substance in the illicit drug market.

An official highlighted the stark price difference: while regular ganja costs around Rs 50,000 per kilogram, hybrid variants can command prices as high as Rs 35 lakh per kg. This economic incentive drives trafficking, posing challenges for law enforcement agencies tasked with curbing its spread.

The seizure not only disrupts local drug operations but also serves as a warning to those involved in the trade. Authorities continue to probe deeper into Joshi's connections and the origins of the hybrid cannabis to prevent future incidents.
