Gurgaon Police Apprehends Convicted Rapist After Bail Violation

In a significant development, the Delhi Police's Crime Branch successfully arrested a 33-year-old convicted rapist on Monday from Gurgaon, ending his period of absconding after he jumped interim bail. The accused, identified as Karan Doltani, a resident of West Delhi, was taken into custody near the Ghamroj toll plaza in Gurgaon, according to official police statements released on Tuesday.

Conviction and Bail Violation Details

Doltani had been convicted and sentenced to 10 years of imprisonment in a 2016 rape case registered at the Bindapur police station under Section 376 (rape) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The case involved the sexual assault of a girl who was the daughter of his then domestic worker at his residence. Despite this conviction, Doltani was granted interim bail for 28 days on medical grounds related to his wife's health.

However, he failed to surrender after the bail period ended, violating the conditions set by the court. Since then, he had been absconding and evading arrest, leading to a coordinated effort by law enforcement to track him down.

Additional Sexual Assault Allegations

Further investigation into police records revealed that Doltani is also wanted in another serious case registered on September 2, 2022. This case involves allegations of sexual assault on a woman known to his family, with charges filed under sections 341 (wrongful restraint), 342 (wrongful confinement), 376 (rape), and 377 (unnatural sexual act) of the IPC.

According to DCP Crime Branch, Harsh Indora, "In the year 2016, the accused sexually assaulted a girl who was the daughter of his then domestic worker at his residence. Subsequently, in the year 2022, the accused again committed a sexual assault upon the friend of his wife, leading to the registration of another case against him." This highlights a pattern of predatory behavior targeting individuals within his social circle.

Background and Current Legal Proceedings

Police officials disclosed that Doltani had previously worked at a call centre and had completed his schooling up to Class 12. Following his arrest, investigators are now completing formal arrest procedures and coordinating with the local police station to ensure all legal protocols are followed for further action.

The arrest is seen as a crucial step in the judicial process, as it will help ensure that Doltani is produced before the court to face proceedings in the pending 2022 case. Additionally, it will facilitate the enforcement of the 10-year sentence awarded in the earlier 2016 conviction, bringing a measure of justice for the victims.

This case underscores the ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies to apprehend individuals who evade legal consequences, particularly in serious offenses like sexual assault. The collaboration between Delhi and Gurgaon police in this operation demonstrates a commitment to public safety and the rule of law.
