Major Drug Bust in Kerala: Over 62 Kilograms of Ganja Seized in Angamaly
In a significant crackdown on narcotics trafficking, Kerala police have made a major drug bust in Angamaly, seizing more than 62 kilograms of ganja and arresting one suspect. The operation, which marks the largest seizure of ganja in the Ernakulam rural district this year, unfolded on Tuesday following precise intelligence.
Interception and Arrest Details
The accused, identified as Haneef, a 38-year-old resident of Uliyathadukka in Kasaragod district, was intercepted by police while transporting the substantial quantity of ganja in a car. The operation was conducted by a joint team from the Ernakulam rural district Dansaf unit and Angamaly police, acting on a tip-off received by District Police Chief K S Sudarshan.
According to police reports, the car was stopped at the Angamaly TB Junction. Upon inspection, authorities discovered the ganja concealed in a specially designed compartment behind the rear seat of the vehicle. This hidden compartment was likely intended to evade detection during transport.
Trafficking Route and Investigation
Investigations reveal that the ganja was being transported from Odisha to Kottayam, with the accused allegedly purchasing the drugs from a local trafficking group. To avoid police scrutiny, Haneef reportedly took less-travelled routes during the journey, a tactic that ultimately failed due to the timely police action.
Police have launched a comprehensive probe to determine if additional individuals are involved in this narcotics racket. The investigation aims to uncover the broader network behind this trafficking operation and prevent future illicit activities.

The successful operation involved multiple law enforcement officials, including:
- Narcotic Cell DSP J Umesh Kumar
