A man was killed and another critically injured after a retired Border Security Force (BSF) jawan and his accomplices allegedly opened indiscriminate fire in Gwalior's Maharajpura area on Wednesday morning. The incident occurred around 10:30 am on Patari Road under the Maharajpura police station jurisdiction, with police confirming that 15 to 20 rounds were fired.

Accused Arrested

The prime accused, identified as Vishnu Dubey, a retired BSF personnel, was arrested late Wednesday evening. A search is ongoing for his associates, who remain at large.

Land Dispute Trigger

According to police, the attack stemmed from a long-running dispute over the dumping of sand on government land. Officials stated that the firing was preceded by a heated altercation between the groups earlier in the day, which escalated into verbal abuse.

Investigating officers revealed that Mahendra, also known as Bhola Gurjar, and his father-in-law, Satyabhan Gurjar, were traveling along Patari Road when they were allegedly surrounded by the accused who arrived on a motorcycle. Before they could react, the accused opened fire using pistols and country-made firearms, causing both victims to sustain bullet injuries and collapse on the road.

Hospitalization and Legal Action

The injured were rushed to the trauma center at Jayarogya Hospital, where Bhola succumbed to excessive blood loss during treatment. Satyabhan underwent surgery to remove bullets and was placed on ventilator support, doctors confirmed. A case of murder and attempt to murder has been registered against Dubey and his associates, with police conducting searches to nab the remaining accused.
