Road Rage Incident Near Jora Bridge Injures Three in Kolkata
A simple car accident in south Kolkata turned violent on Tuesday evening. The incident occurred near the Santoshpur Jora Bridge. It quickly escalated into a full-blown road rage clash.
From Bump to Brawl
According to police reports, the trouble started around 5:15 PM. Subrata Sinha, a 33-year-old resident of Bhowanipore, was driving his car. He was heading from the Jora Bridge side towards the Santoshpur flyover.
At the same time, another car driven by Subhradip Dey was approaching the bridge from the opposite direction. The two vehicles collided near the bridge.
Allegations of Assault and Threats
Subrata Sinha filed a formal complaint with the Survey Park Police. In his statement, he claimed the collision was not the end of the matter.
Sinha alleged that after the crash, Subhradip Dey got out of his car. He then reportedly assaulted Sinha. The complaint states that Dey also threatened Sinha and his family members who were present.
"He rammed into my vehicle and then attacked me," Sinha told the police, according to the complaint. "He even assaulted my fiancée when we protested. He made threats against us."
Injuries on Both Sides
The confrontation left three people with injuries. Subrata Sinha suffered a hurt wrist from the initial collision. Both he and his fiancée sustained injuries during the alleged assault.
Interestingly, the accused driver, Subhradip Dey, also got injured in the scuffle. The exact nature of his injuries was not detailed in the initial police report.
Police Action and Investigation
The Survey Park Police have registered a case based on Sinha's complaint. Officers are now investigating the sequence of events.
They are examining the scene of the accident and gathering statements from all involved parties. The police are also looking for any witnesses who might have seen the collision or the subsequent fight.
