Robbery Accused Injured in Police Encounter in Sultanpur

A man accused in a robbery case was injured in a police encounter and subsequently arrested along with three others in Uttar Pradesh's Sultanpur district, police officials stated on Saturday.

Details of the Incident

According to Additional Superintendent of Police Brij Narayan Singh, law enforcement received a tip-off around 2:30 am that several suspects linked to a robbery that occurred on May 7 had gathered to distribute the stolen money. Acting on this intelligence, a joint team comprising local police and the Special Operations Group (SOG) reached the location and surrounded the accused individuals.

Police reported that the suspects opened fire while attempting to escape, prompting the team to retaliate in self-defense. During the exchange of fire, one of the accused, identified as Pratik Bharti, sustained a bullet injury to his leg. He was immediately rushed to the district hospital for medical treatment.

Arrests and Recoveries

In addition to Bharti, three other suspects—identified as Prince, Sufiyan, and Anubhav—were taken into custody. From the scene, police recovered Rs 24,500 in cash and a motorcycle believed to have been used in the robbery.

The case originates from a complaint filed on May 7 by Ramakrishna Vishwakarma, a microfinance collection agent, who alleged that he was robbed of Rs 32,000 at gunpoint.

Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine if the arrested individuals are linked to other criminal activities in the region.
