Man Arrested After Brutal Assault on Daughter Caught on CCTV
A man in Rohtak, Haryana, has been arrested for brutally assaulting his four-year-old daughter on a public road, with the entire incident captured on CCTV camera. The video, which has since gone viral, shows the man repeatedly hitting and kicking the child, sparking widespread outrage and leading to his swift arrest by local police.
The incident occurred in the Gohana area of Rohtak district. According to police officials, the accused, identified as Sandeep, was taken into custody on Saturday evening after the CCTV footage surfaced on social media. The child sustained multiple injuries and is currently receiving medical treatment at a local hospital.
CCTV Footage Shows Relentless Attack
The CCTV footage, obtained from a nearby shop, shows Sandeep dragging the girl by her hair before throwing her to the ground. He then proceeds to kick and punch her repeatedly, while passersby appear to ignore the incident. The video shows the assault continuing for several minutes before the man eventually walks away, leaving the child crying on the road.
"The accused has been arrested under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Juvenile Justice Act," said Rohtak Superintendent of Police (SP) Rahul Dev. "The child is safe and undergoing medical care. We are investigating the matter thoroughly."
Public Outrage and Police Action
The video, shared widely on social media platforms, prompted immediate condemnation from netizens and child rights activists. Many demanded strict action against the father, who is reportedly a daily wage laborer. The police acted swiftly after the video came to their notice, registering a case under Sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 325 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt) of the IPC, along with provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012.
"We received information about the video and immediately took action. The accused was arrested within hours," SP Dev added. "The child's mother has also been questioned, and we are ensuring the child's well-being."
Child's Condition and Medical Care
The four-year-old girl, who suffered bruises and swelling on her body, is reported to be in stable condition. She was initially treated at a local clinic and later referred to the Rohtak civil hospital for further observation. Doctors have stated that she is recovering and will require counseling due to the trauma.
Child welfare authorities have been involved, and the case has been referred to the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) for further proceedings. The CWC will assess the child's living conditions and decide on custody arrangements.
Background of the Accused
According to neighbors, Sandeep had a history of violent behavior and often mistreated his family members. He worked as a laborer and lived in a rented accommodation with his wife and two children. The family had moved to Rohtak from a nearby village a few months ago. The motive behind the assault is believed to be frustration over a personal dispute, though police are investigating further.
"We never thought he would go this far. He used to scold the children often, but this was shocking," said a neighbor who wished to remain anonymous.
Legal Proceedings and Public Response
The accused was produced before a local court on Sunday and remanded to police custody for three days. The court has ordered a detailed investigation, including a medical report of the child. Child rights organizations have called for a thorough probe and stricter penalties for child abuse cases.
"This is a horrific incident that highlights the need for stronger child protection mechanisms," said Anuradha Bhardwaj, a child rights activist. "The public must report such incidents immediately, and authorities must act swiftly to protect vulnerable children."
The case has also sparked a debate on parental discipline and child abuse, with many calling for awareness campaigns in communities to prevent such incidents.
