Rottweiler Mauls Boy in Bengaluru, Owners Booked

A 12-year-old boy was hospitalised after a neighbour's pet Rottweiler allegedly broke loose and mauled him in Maheshwarinagar, Mahadevapura, on June 13. The attack occurred around 2:30 pm, and the situation escalated when the dog's owners reportedly abused and threatened the victim's family to prevent them from approaching the police.

Incident Details

According to the complaint filed by the boy's father, an ex-serviceman, the minor was cycling on the residential street outside his house. Suddenly, a black Rottweiler bolted out of a neighbouring house through an unsecured gate. The aggressive canine lunged at the boy, biting him deeply on his right hip and buttock before immediately running back inside.

The panicked boy lost control of his bicycle and crashed onto the road, sustaining multiple cuts and bruises. Hearing his screams, residents rushed to the spot and took him to a hospital.

Confrontation with Owners

When the victim's parents confronted Shyam and Vijayalakshmi, the dog's owners, about the attack, the couple allegedly reacted angrily. They reportedly shouted at the parents, claimed the child had provoked the dog, and warned of "dire consequences" if a police complaint was filed.

Police Action

The Mahadevapura police have registered a case against Shyam and Vijayalakshmi. A police officer said, "We have issued a notice to Shyam and Vijayalakshmi, directing them to appear before us. Also, we have written to GBA, seeking its report on the guidelines issued to Rottweiler owners."

Government Guidelines

Government guidelines require large, potentially dangerous breeds like Rottweilers to be securely confined and, where necessary, muzzled. The victim's family questioned why the dog was left unrestrained.
