RPF nabs man with stolen phones at Ernakulam Junction

In a swift operation, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) apprehended a man and recovered two stolen mobile phones from his possession at the bustling Ernakulam Junction railway station on Friday morning. The arrest highlights the vigilance of railway security forces in curbing crime on the rail network.

Joint Combing Operation Leads to Arrest

The arrest was made during a joint combing operation conducted by the crime prevention squad of the RPF and the railway police. The teams were monitoring suspicious activity within the station premises when their attention was drawn to an individual later identified as Mayakannan, a 31-year-old native of Keelnesanary in Virudhunagar district, Madurai.

Officials stated that Mayakannan was found moving in a manner that raised suspicion, prompting them to detain him for a routine inquiry. When questioned about his purpose at the station, he claimed to have arrived from Aluva by train with the intention of selling mobile phones at a city shop.

Failed Alibi and Discovery of Stolen Goods

However, his story quickly unraveled. Upon further questioning, he failed to produce any valid travel ticket for his journey. This discrepancy led the security team to conduct a thorough check of his belongings.

The search proved fruitful as the squad discovered two mobile phones in his possession. Under sustained interrogation, Mayakannan broke down and confessed that the phones were not his. He admitted to having stolen the devices from the Kayamkulam area.

Case Filed and Investigation Underway

Following the confession and recovery of the stolen property, the railway police have officially filed a case against the accused. The investigation is currently progressing to uncover further details, including potential links to other thefts and the intended market for the stolen goods.

This incident serves as a stern warning to criminal elements operating within the railway system. The successful joint operation demonstrates the effectiveness of coordinated efforts between the RPF and railway police in maintaining passenger safety and security across India's vast rail network.
