SAD Mohali District President Faces Rs 5 Crore Extortion Demand from Gangster Pawan Shokeen

In a disturbing development that follows recent extortion threats against singer B Praak, senior Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) Mohali district president Parvinder Singh Sohana has reported receiving repeated threats and a massive Rs 5 crore extortion demand from notorious gangster Pawan Shokeen. The case has escalated with police intervention and formal legal proceedings.

FIR Registered Under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Sections

Following Sohana's detailed complaint, Mohali police on Thursday registered a First Information Report (FIR) under Sections 308(4) and 351(3) of the newly implemented Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against gangster Pawan Shokeen and other unidentified individuals. Authorities have initiated a comprehensive investigation into the matter, marking a serious response to the alleged criminal intimidation.

Chronology of Threatening Communications

According to Sohana's statement to The Indian Express, the extortion saga began on January 3, 2026, when he received the first threatening call via WhatsApp from an international number. The caller explicitly demanded Rs 5 crore and issued death threats against Sohana and his family members if the amount was not paid, boldly identifying himself as gangster Pawan Shokeen during the communication.

Sohana promptly lodged a formal complaint with the Station House Officer (SHO) of Sohana village and submitted crucial evidence including audio recordings of the threatening call. Despite this immediate reporting, the harassment continued with another menacing call on January 7 from a foreign number, followed by a particularly chilling voice message that referenced a recent killing in Amritsar.

The voice message reportedly stated: "You saw what we did to the sarpanch in Amritsar, shot him dead at a wedding. If the Peeli Pag can be killed, then the Neeli Pag is next." This ominous reference to previous violence heightened the perceived threat level significantly.

Escalating Threats and Police Response

In subsequent communications, the caller reportedly warned: "It seems you didn't understand earlier. Now we will show you action." Sohana has characterized these threats as "grave, direct and imminent" in nature, expressing serious concerns about his personal safety and that of his family members.

Despite approaching multiple police authorities including the SHO initially and later the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mohali, Sohana claims that no immediate protective action was taken. The situation took another turn on January 16 when a police team from Jodhan police station in Ludhiana visited Sohana's residence after detecting gangster-linked calls on his phone number during routine monitoring.

Sohana informed the visiting officers that he had already reported the threat calls to Mohali police, and after verification procedures, the Ludhiana police team departed from his premises.

Pattern of Previous Threats and Current Investigation

In his formal police complaint, Sohana revealed that he had previously received threats from multiple numbers including:

  • 97528969044
  • +1-780-631-2180
  • +92-3195461415

Despite these earlier incidents, no arrests were made according to Sohana's account. The most recent threatening calls have been traced to international numbers +34-612278213 and +44-7503537883, indicating possible overseas connections to the extortion attempt.

Political Background and Security Concerns

Sohana emphasized in his complaint that his family has long been associated with social and political work in Punjab, actively raising voices against drug menace and gangster culture in the state. "Because of my stand against anti-social elements, gangsters are targeting me. They have openly threatened to kill me and my family," he stated, connecting the threats to his anti-criminal activism.

The SAD leader also highlighted that while he was granted security cover in 2013 by the Additional Director General of Police (Security), no protective measures have been provided this time despite the heightened threat perception and specific nature of the extortion demands.

Ongoing Police Investigation

Police officials have confirmed that technical analysis of call records and audio clips is currently underway as part of the investigation. Forensic examination of digital evidence and international coordination may be required given the overseas numbers involved in the threatening communications.

The case represents a significant challenge for law enforcement agencies in Punjab, coming amidst broader concerns about gangster activities and extortion rackets targeting prominent individuals across different sectors including politics and entertainment.
