Sambhal Police Approaches Allahabad High Court Over CJM's FIR Directive
In a significant legal development, the Sambhal Police has officially moved the Allahabad High Court to challenge a January 9 order issued by then Chief Judicial Magistrate Vibhanshu Sudhir. The contested judicial directive had mandated the registration of a First Information Report (FIR) against twelve police personnel. This legal action stems from allegations of police firing during violent incidents that erupted in Sambhal on November 24, 2024.
Dual Petitions Filed in the High Court
Adding another layer to this complex case, a separate petition was concurrently filed in the Allahabad High Court by Anuj Chaudhary, who served as the Sambhal Circle Officer at the time of the incident. This indicates a coordinated legal response from multiple parties connected to the law enforcement apparatus involved in the controversial event.
Superintendent of Police for Sambhal, Krishan Kant Bishnoi, has publicly confirmed the filing of a revision petition. The primary objective of this legal document is to seek the annulment or setting aside of the CJM's directive. "A revision petition has been filed challenging the January 9 order passed by CJM Vibhanshu Sudhir," the senior police official stated, formally acknowledging the department's legal stance.
Origins of the Case: A Father's Complaint
The judicial order that has now been challenged originated from a formal complaint lodged by Mohd Yameen, a resident of Khaggu Sarai in the region. Yameen alleged that his son, Mohd Alam, became a victim of police gunfire while attempting to flee from the scene of the violence. This incident occurred near the historic Mughal-era Shahi Jama Masjid.
According to the complainant's account, the violence coincided with the second round of a court-ordered survey being conducted by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). Yameen detailed that his son had left home that morning for his routine work of selling biscuits. A crowd had gathered in the area during the official ASI survey proceedings, and it was amidst this unrest that police personnel reportedly opened fire.
Aftermath and Legal Proceedings
The consequences of the alleged firing were severe for Mohd Alam. He sustained three bullet injuries during the incident. In a further twist, following the shooting, Alam was arrested and had remained incarcerated since the November 2024 event. However, in a recent development, the Allahabad High Court granted him bail earlier this week, providing some relief in his prolonged legal ordeal.
The broader context of the November 24 incident reveals its tragic scale. Official reports confirm that the violence led to the death of four individuals, with at least a dozen others sustaining various injuries. The current legal battle in the High Court represents a critical juncture in determining accountability and the course of justice for all parties involved in this deeply contentious episode from Sambhal's recent history.
