Deadly Collision on Samruddhi Expressway Claims Seven Lives
A horrific road accident on the Samruddhi expressway in Maharashtra's Jalna district resulted in the tragic deaths of seven individuals and left at least six others with serious injuries on Wednesday evening. The catastrophic incident occurred when a speeding truck violently rammed into a pickup vehicle near Kadwanchi village, completely mangling the smaller vehicle and trapping occupants inside.
Maintenance Workers Returning Home After Duty
According to Jalna Superintendent of Police Ajaykumar Bansal, all the victims were part of a maintenance team that had been working on the expressway throughout the day. The workers had been engaged in routine maintenance activities including trimming plants on the dividers and were preparing to return home when the tragedy struck. The pickup vehicle they were traveling in was struck by the truck just as they were beginning their journey back from the worksite.
Severe Impact and Immediate Response
The collision was so powerful that it completely crushed the pickup vehicle, making rescue operations extremely challenging. Seven people died instantly at the scene due to the tremendous impact, while others suffered grave injuries. Local residents who heard the deafening crash immediately rushed to the accident site and alerted emergency services.
A police team accompanied by multiple ambulances quickly reached the location and launched an extensive rescue operation. Rescuers worked diligently to extricate the injured individuals from the wreckage, a process that proved difficult due to the severe damage to the vehicle. All injured persons were subsequently transported to Jalna District General Hospital for urgent medical treatment.
Critical Condition and Ongoing Investigation
Hospital authorities confirmed that several of the injured victims remain in critical condition and are under close medical supervision. While officials continue to verify the exact number of casualties, they have confirmed that at least six people sustained serious injuries in the devastating crash.
Police have seized the truck involved in the accident and detained its driver. Preliminary investigations indicate that speeding and negligent driving by the truck driver likely caused the fatal collision. The process of registering a First Information Report (FIR) against the driver was underway through Wednesday night.
Victims Identified and Legal Procedures
The police have identified the deceased victims as Alkabai Adamane, Kanchanbai Adamane, Meena Adamane, and Sumanbai Adamane, all residents of Nidhona village, along with Laxmibai Madan, Tarabai Chaudhary, and Kadubai Madan from Keligavhan village.
The bodies have been sent for postmortem examination, and relatives of the victims have been notified about the tragedy. Police officials stated that the bodies will be handed over to the families after completion of all necessary legal formalities. This tragic incident has highlighted ongoing concerns about road safety on India's expressways, particularly for maintenance workers who regularly work in close proximity to high-speed traffic.
