Accused Injured in Exchange of Fire

The main accused in the June 12 firing at BMS Fashions in Santokhpura, Jalandhar, was injured in an exchange of fire with the police near Jamsher village on Tuesday afternoon. The accused, identified as Naval Bhardwaj, alias Billa, sustained a bullet wound to his left leg during the encounter.

Details of the Incident

The CIA staff of the Jalandhar Commissionerate Police had taken Bhardwaj to the area to recover a bike linked to the case. Deputy Commissioner of Police Manpreet Dhillon stated, “During this process, the police team had no prior information regarding the weapon concealed in the bushes near the bike.” According to Dhillon, “The accused pushed a police official and picked up the pistol. He loaded the pistol and fired at the police.”

Dhillon added that the accused tried to flee from the spot, prompting the police to retaliate in self-defence. In the exchange, a bullet struck Bhardwaj’s left leg. He was immediately shifted to the Civil Hospital in Jalandhar, where he is currently undergoing treatment. The police have recovered the pistol allegedly used in the attack on the police team.
