District police in Chikkamagaluru have initiated an extensive search operation for a 16-year-old girl from Kerala who went missing in the Chandradrona Hills on Tuesday. The Class 10 student, identified as Srinandhana, became untraceable during a family trip to the scenic hills, prompting immediate concern and mobilization of resources.
Advanced Technology Deployed in Search Efforts
Chikkamagaluru Superintendent of Police Jitendra Kumar Dayama confirmed that multiple teams have been deployed, utilizing advanced technology to locate the missing teenager. Thermal drones are being employed to scan the dense forest areas, while authorities are meticulously examining CCTV footage from the vicinity. Additionally, investigators are analyzing the call records of both the girl and her parents to gather any potential leads that could aid in the search.
Challenging Terrain and Weather Conditions Hamper Operations
The search operation, which includes personnel from the forest department and fire and emergency services, faced significant challenges due to the difficult terrain and dense mist prevalent in the region. Operations were temporarily halted on Tuesday night due to darkness but resumed with renewed vigor on Wednesday. A senior police officer stated, "We have intensified the search with multiple teams on the ground. However, the challenging terrain and dense mist are severely hampering our operations, making it a complex and urgent mission."

This distressing incident follows closely on the heels of a similar case in Kodagu, where Kerala-based techie GS Sharanya went missing during a trek to Tadiandamol. She was fortunately found approximately 72 hours later, but the recurrence of such events has heightened concerns about safety in the region's popular trekking spots.

In response to the situation, Forest Minister Eshwar Khandre has assured full departmental support to trace the missing girl.
