Seven security personnel have sustained injuries in a gunbattle with terrorists that erupted in a remote forested area of Kishtwar district, Jammu and Kashmir, on Sunday. Officials confirmed the incident, stating that three of the injured personnel were airlifted for urgent medical care.
Operation Launched on Specific Intelligence
Security forces initiated a cordon and search operation in the village of Son Nar near Mandral-Singpora in Chatroo, Kishtwar, around noon. They acted on a tip-off indicating the presence of two to three terrorists in the forest area. During the search, terrorists opened fire on the security team, prompting immediate retaliation from the troops.
Reinforcements and Aerial Support Deployed
Reinforcements from the Army, CRPF, and police swiftly arrived at the scene to tighten the cordon around the terrorists. Intermittent firing continued between the two sides for some time. Drones and helicopters have been pressed into service to assist in the ongoing operation, which the Army's Jammu-based White Knight Corps has named Operation Trashi-I.
In a post on X, the White Knight Corps stated that security forces made contact with the terrorists in the general area of Sonnar, northeast of Chatroo. This occurred during a search operation as part of ongoing joint counter-terror exercises conducted alongside police forces.
Third Encounter in Jammu Region This Year
This gunfight marks the third encounter between security forces and terrorists in the Jammu region in 2026. Earlier encounters were reported in the Kamadh and Najote forests of Billawar area, Kathua district, on January 7 and January 13, respectively. The current operation in Kishtwar remains active as security forces work to neutralize the terrorist threat in the challenging terrain of the upper reaches.
