The sixth round of the National Family Health Survey (NFHS-6) has revealed a significant decline in the percentage of women experiencing sexual violence in Karnataka. According to the survey, the figure has dropped sharply to 14.1% from the previous 44.4%, marking a remarkable improvement in the state's efforts to combat sexual violence.
Key Findings of NFHS-6
The survey, conducted across India, provides crucial insights into the status of women. Nationwide, 64% of women now own their own cell phones, indicating increased access to communication and information. Additionally, over 30% of women were employed and received a salary in the last 12 months, reflecting gradual progress in women's economic participation.
Implications of the Decline
The dramatic reduction in sexual violence in Karnataka suggests that awareness campaigns, stricter law enforcement, and support systems for survivors are yielding positive results. However, experts caution that continued efforts are needed to address underreporting and ensure safety for all women.
The NFHS-6 data also highlights regional variations, with some states showing slower progress. The survey underscores the importance of targeted interventions to empower women and reduce violence.
