Sirsa Lawyers Stage Statewide Strike Following Violent Attack on Colleague
Court work in Sirsa came to a complete standstill on Tuesday as members of the local Bar Association launched a strong protest against the brutal assault on a fellow lawyer. The legal fraternity expressed outrage over an incident where advocate Kewal Singh Kamboj was attacked with a sharp-edged weapon during a payment-related dispute.
Statewide Solidarity and Warning to Authorities
The Sirsa Bar Association received overwhelming support from bar associations across Haryana, leading to a coordinated one-day statewide strike on Tuesday. Legal professionals from various districts joined hands to condemn the violence against their colleague. The association has issued a stern warning to law enforcement agencies, stating that court work suspension will continue indefinitely if police fail to arrest the accused promptly.
Ganga Ram Dhaka, President of Sirsa Bar Association, emphasized that this attack represents an assault on the entire legal community, not just an individual practitioner. "When lawyers are attacked in this manner, it undermines the very foundation of our justice system," Dhaka stated during the protest.
Details of the Violent Incident
According to the official complaint, the disturbing incident occurred on January 17 when advocate Kewal Singh Kamboj became involved in a dispute regarding payment of professional fees. The accused, identified as Pramod Tak, allegedly made repeated phone calls to the lawyer, insisting on a meeting to resolve the matter.
When Kamboj went to meet Tak to discuss the pending payment, what began as a discussion quickly escalated into a heated argument. During the confrontation, Tak reportedly struck the lawyer on the head with a sharp-edged weapon, causing severe injuries that required immediate medical attention.
Disrupted Meeting and Broader Concerns
A delegation of lawyers had scheduled a meeting with the Superintendent of Police on Tuesday to discuss the case and demand swift action. However, this crucial meeting was unexpectedly canceled when news emerged about the tragic death of another lawyer and two family members, prompting legal professionals to leave immediately.
The legal community's response highlights several critical issues:
- Growing concerns about lawyer safety during professional duties
- The need for stronger protection mechanisms for legal practitioners
- Systemic challenges in resolving payment disputes without violence
- The importance of timely police intervention in such cases
As the protest continues, lawyers across Haryana have reached out to other bar bodies seeking additional support and solidarity. The legal fraternity remains united in its demand for immediate arrest of the accused and enhanced security measures for professionals working within the justice system.
