Ludhiana: Six Booked for Gunpoint Assault on Salon Owner in Lamme Village
Six booked for gunpoint assault on salon owner in Ludhiana

Police in Ludhiana have taken swift action against two separate criminal incidents, one involving a violent armed assault and another concerning drug and arms possession by a minor. The cases highlight ongoing law and order challenges in the region.

Salon Owner Assaulted at Gunpoint in Lamme Village

The Hathur police have registered a case against six individuals for allegedly attacking a salon operator while threatening him with a revolver. The incident took place at Lamme village in the Jagraon area of Ludhiana district.

According to the complaint filed by the victim, Sukchain Singh, he was working in his shop when a group of five men arrived on a motorcycle. The group, comprising three known and two unidentified persons, forcefully entered the premises and began physically assaulting him. Sukchain Singh stated that one of the accused, Inderjit Singh, brandished a revolver and threatened to kill him during the attack.

In a further act to potentially destroy evidence, the assailants allegedly took away the CCTV camera and its recording chip installed at the salon. Following the complaint, police officials registered a formal case. Two persons, including the main accused Inderjit Singh, have already been arrested. Preliminary investigations suggest the motive behind the violent attack was a minor dispute between the complainant and the accused.

Minor Apprehended with Heroin and Pistol Magazines in Sahnewal

In an unrelated case from the same district, the Sahnewal police arrested a 17-year-old boy during a routine patrol. The arrest was made on 33 Feet Road after the juvenile was stopped while riding a bike.

Investigating Officer Iqbal Singh reported that the minor was searched according to standard legal procedure. The search led to the recovery of five grams of heroin and two pistol magazines from his possession. Consequently, a case has been registered under the stringent Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and the Arms Act.

During questioning, the minor revealed that he had procured the contraband and the magazines from a former neighbour identified as Pandit. He also disclosed that he was instructed to deliver the pistol magazines to another youth near Sherpur Chowk later that evening. Police are now making efforts to track down both the supplier, Pandit, and the intended recipient to dismantle this link in the chain.

Ongoing Investigations and Legal Procedures

Authorities are pursuing multiple angles in both cases. For the assault case, efforts are on to apprehend the remaining accused, including the two unidentified individuals. The investigation aims to establish the full sequence of events and the exact nature of the dispute that triggered the attack.

In the drug and arms case, the probe is focused on uncovering the larger network involved in trafficking and illegal arms circulation. The investigation is being conducted strictly under the provisions of the Juvenile Justice Act due to the age of the accused. Police officials have emphasized their commitment to tracing the entire supply chain to prevent such activities.

These incidents serve as a reminder of the varied challenges faced by law enforcement in urban and semi-urban areas of Punjab, ranging from personal disputes turning violent to the menace of drug and weapon peddling involving young individuals.
