Verna Police Register Case Against Six for Illegal Wall Construction Blocking Hotel Project
In a significant development in Arossim, the Verna police have officially registered an offence against six named individuals and several other accomplices. The case centers on allegations that the accused formed an unlawful assembly with the intent to block access to a hotel construction project. Their method involved the unauthorized construction of a wall directly on a public road, an act that constitutes a clear obstruction and alteration of public property.
Details of the Alleged Incident and Complaint
The incident is reported to have taken place over a period spanning from February 8 to February 10. According to the formal complaint lodged by Arossim resident Bernard Dias, the accused persons—identified as Jose Joaquim Ferandes, Simao D’Silva, Darick Azavedo, Macklin Rodrigues, Alex Azavedo, and Benny D’Silva, along with others—deliberately built this illegal wall. This construction effectively blocked the primary access route to Dias's hotel project, causing not only an obstruction but also unauthorized damage to public infrastructure.
The situation escalated further when workers associated with Bernard Dias raised objections to the illegal construction. It is alleged that in response, the accused individuals resorted to abusive language, directing filthy remarks at the workers. More alarmingly, the complaint states that threats were issued, including dire consequences and even death threats, creating an atmosphere of intimidation and fear at the site.
Police Investigation Underway
The case is now under active investigation. Police Sub-Inspector Mahesh Bhomkar has been assigned to lead the inquiry, operating under the direct supervision of Police Inspector Anand Shirodkar. Their investigation will focus on verifying the allegations of unlawful assembly, property damage, and the threats made against the project workers. The police are expected to examine all evidence, including witness statements and the physical alteration of the public road, to build a comprehensive case.
This incident highlights ongoing tensions surrounding development projects and public access rights in the region. The illegal obstruction of a public road not only disrupts local infrastructure but also raises serious legal questions regarding property rights and community conduct. The outcome of this police investigation will be closely watched, as it may set a precedent for how similar disputes are handled in the future, balancing development interests with lawful use of public spaces.
