Six Killed, Seven Injured in Tragic Yamuna Expressway Collision in Hathras
A devastating early morning accident on the Yamuna Expressway in Hathras district has resulted in the deaths of six individuals, including two married couples, and left seven others with serious injuries. The catastrophic collision occurred when a high-speed sleeper bus traveling from Noida to Gorakhpur violently crashed into a van carrying thirteen passengers.

The tragic event unfolded at approximately 4:15 AM on Tuesday near Milestone 141 of the Yamuna Expressway. According to preliminary police investigations, the private sleeper bus attempted to overtake the van but the driver lost control of the vehicle, leading to the catastrophic impact. While all passengers on the bus emerged unharmed, the van bore the full brunt of the collision.
The victims in the van were returning to their native village in Rajasthan's Dholpur district from Delhi, where they had been preparing to celebrate the Holi festival with their families. The sudden tragedy has cast a shadow over what should have been a joyous occasion.
Victims and Immediate Aftermath
The deceased have been identified as:
- Dinesh Singh, 45, and his wife Sunita Devi, 40
- Lokesh, 35, from Dholpur
- Vijay Baghel, 30, and his wife Pinki Baghel, 28
- Nathu Devi, 35, a relative from Agra
Pawan Kumar, Vijay Baghel's brother-in-law, shared heartbreaking details about the family's circumstances. "Vijay had recently started his own business and opened a shop. Last night, he left Delhi for his native village in the van, accompanied by his wife, sister-in-law, and children," Kumar stated, highlighting the profound personal loss.
Emergency Response and Legal Actions
Local police and emergency medical services responded swiftly to the accident scene. All seven injured passengers were initially transported to the community health centre in Khandauli, with three critically injured individuals subsequently transferred to Agra for specialized medical care.
Assistant Superintendent of Police Ramanad Kushwaha confirmed that both the bus driver, identified as Arshad, and the conductor, Krishan, have been arrested following the registration of a First Information Report under BNS 105, which addresses culpable homicide not amounting to murder. Remarkably, the van driver managed to escape with minor injuries.
"Local police, along with ambulances, reached the accident spot immediately. Further legal proceedings are currently underway," ASP Kushwaha stated, emphasizing the ongoing investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fatal collision.
