Skeleton Discovery in Well Unearths Four-Month-Old Murder Case in Garhwa
Panic gripped Kanchanpur village in Garhwa district on Wednesday after police authorities retrieved a human skeleton from a local well. The skeletal remains, suspected to belong to 23-year-old Ritesh Kumar Ravi, were promptly sent to Garhwa Sadar Hospital for a detailed post-mortem examination to confirm identity and cause of death.
Background of the Victim and Initial Disappearance
Ritesh Kumar Ravi, a resident of Kanchanpur village under the jurisdiction of Ranka police station, was reportedly killed four months ago. The motive behind the murder is alleged to stem from an illicit affair with a married woman in Khura village, which falls within the same police station limits. According to his parents, Ritesh had traveled to Coimbatore on December 12 last year to work under a contractor named Ashok Choudhary.
On January 4 this year, Ritesh informed his family that he was returning home. However, when he failed to arrive, his parents grew increasingly concerned. Their attempts to contact contractor Ashok Choudhary yielded unsatisfactory responses, prompting them to file a formal missing person report with the Ranka police station on March 2.
Police Investigation and Arrests
The breakthrough in the case came on April 19, when police received a crucial tip-off regarding Ritesh's whereabouts. Subsequent investigations revealed a grim sequence of events. On the night of January 7, Ritesh visited the house of Dhananjay Oraon in Khura village to meet Priyanka Devi, Dhananjay's wife, with whom he was allegedly having an affair.
At the residence, Ritesh was strangled to death by Dhananjay Oraon and other family members. The perpetrators then disposed of his body by dumping it into a nearby well. In connection with the murder, police have arrested four individuals: Priyanka Devi (30), her husband Dhananjay Oraon (36), Nepali Oraon (25), and Chhotu Oraon (20).
Official Statement and Legal Proceedings
Ranka Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Rohit Ranjan Singh addressed the media on Wednesday, stating, "The matter is related to revenge stemming from a love affair. Four key accused in the case have been arrested, and further legal action is underway." The police are continuing their probe to gather additional evidence and ensure all aspects of the case are thoroughly examined.
This incident has sent shockwaves through the local community, highlighting issues of vigilantism and personal vendettas. Authorities urge the public to report any suspicious activities and cooperate with law enforcement to maintain peace and order in the region.
