Sonipat Property Dispute Erupts in Tragic Murder-Suicide
Haryana Police are conducting a thorough investigation into a chilling murder-suicide case in Sonipat that has laid bare deep-seated family fractures. The incident, which occurred on Tuesday, involves a long-running property dispute and disturbing connections to a suspicious death from two years ago, creating a complex web of tragedy and conflict.
Grim Discovery in Locked House
The bodies of 74-year-old Mahavir Rana and his 75-year-old sister-in-law Asha Rani were discovered inside their shared residence in Sonipat. Police investigators found Rana's body hanging from a fixture, while Rani was located in the kitchen area, lying in a pool of blood with her throat slashed. The domestic help first raised the alarm when she found the house locked from the inside during her morning visit.
When the helper returned at 1:30 PM to find the doors still securely barred, she immediately alerted neighbors and family members. After forcing entry into the property, relatives discovered the horrific scene and promptly notified police authorities. Forensic teams spent the entire afternoon meticulously scouring the premises for evidence, collecting samples and documenting the crime scene in detail.
Chalk Messages Point to Family Conflict
In a bizarre and significant development, investigators discovered two messages written in chalk on household furniture - specifically on a bed box and a wardrobe (almirah). These writings reportedly name specific relatives, identified as Usha and her husband Dinesh, directly accusing them of involvement in a previous family tragedy. Police officials are treating these messages as crucial investigative leads while working diligently to verify the handwriting authenticity and assess the validity of the serious allegations contained within.
Property Dispute at the Heart of Tragedy
The investigation has centered primarily on a long-standing and bitter feud over the family home, which was legally partitioned between Rani, her late husband Bir Singh, and Rana. Multiple sources indicate that simmering tensions over ownership rights and the potential sale of the property had escalated dramatically in recent weeks. Rani was reportedly eager to sell her share of the house, a move that other family members strongly opposed, creating an atmosphere of increasing hostility and conflict.
Reopening a Suspicious Past Death
Detectives are now reopening investigation files concerning the death of Rani's husband, Bir Singh, who died under what authorities describe as suspicious circumstances in the same house back in 2022. This tragic history adds another layer of complexity to the current case. Compounding the situation, Rani's only son has been living and working in Oman for several years, leaving the elderly relatives to navigate the intense property dispute without immediate family support or mediation.
Police Pursue Multiple Investigative Angles
Savit Kumar, the station house officer (SHO) of Sector 27, confirmed that the investigation was actively following multiple leads, including the family property dispute and the names mentioned in the chalk messages found at the crime scene. He stated clearly: "The exact sequence of events will be established conclusively only after comprehensive forensic analysis and examination of all available evidence." Legal action remains pending while authorities await further statements from extended family members and the official results of post-mortem examinations currently being conducted.
