A horrifying incident unfolded at the Bathinda railway station on Friday, where a newborn infant, abandoned on the tracks, was mauled by a pack of stray dogs. The tragic event has sent shockwaves through the community and prompted a police investigation.
Discovery and Immediate Aftermath
The infant had been left wrapped in cloth under a locomotive that was parked near platform 6. According to police reports, the attack occurred shortly after the engine departed for its destination. The departure exposed the child to the stray dogs loitering in the area.
Government Railway Police SHO Jasbir Singh stated that while the infant was declared dead upon their arrival, a post-mortem has been ordered. This crucial examination aims to determine whether the child was already deceased at the time of abandonment or died as a direct result of the dog attack.
Police Investigation and Legal Action
The police have registered a case under Section 94 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for concealing birth through secret disposal of a body. Sub-inspector Inderjit from the Railway Protection Force noted that some female clothes were discovered near the body, leading to suspicion that they might have been used during delivery.
Authorities are now meticulously scanning CCTV footage from the railway station and surrounding areas in an effort to identify the individual responsible for abandoning the child.
Eyewitness Account and Scene Details
Sandeep, a volunteer from NGO Sahara Jansewa, revealed that he was the first to receive information about the incident at 11:30 AM. He reached the location around 11:40 AM. By the time he arrived, the stray dogs had already fled the scene after mutilating the newborn's limbs.
The police continue their investigation, combining forensic evidence with video analysis to piece together the events that led to this heartbreaking tragedy in Bathinda.
