Uttarakhand University Student Jailed for Alleged Rape and Blackmail After Concealing Identity
In a disturbing case from Uttarakhand, a 22-year-old student of a university in Pauri Garhwal district has been arrested and sent to jail. He is accused of repeatedly raping a 21-year-old student from the same institution after befriending her under a false surname to hide his religion.
Complaint Reveals Harrowing Details of Deceit and Abuse
The case came to light when the woman filed a formal complaint with police on Wednesday, leading to the accused's arrest later that same day. Inspector Kuldeep Singh of the local police station confirmed the developments, noting that the accused hails from Bijnor in Uttar Pradesh.
According to the victim's complaint, the accused student initiated contact around two years ago, introducing himself with a different name initially. He allegedly raped her multiple times at his residence, using the pretext of marriage to gain her trust. Shockingly, he also recorded these acts on his mobile phone without her consent.
Blackmail and Stalking Compound the Trauma
After revealing his real identity, the man reportedly began blackmailing the victim with the explicit video footage, demanding money under threat of exposure. The harassment escalated as he started stalking her near the university campus, creating an environment of constant fear and intimidation.
"When I was unable to bear the harassment and humiliation any more, I decided to lodge the complaint," the victim stated in her police filing, highlighting the prolonged nature of her ordeal.
Swift Police Action Leads to Arrest
Inspector Singh detailed the police response: "A special team was formed, which then started collecting evidence, including the accused's online details. The student was then arrested from his accommodation in Pauri Garhwal district and produced before the local court on Wednesday, which sent him to jail."
The authorities have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against the 22-year-old student under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). These include:
- Section 64: Rape
- Section 69: Sexual intercourse induced by deceitful means
- Section 78: Stalking
- Section 351(3): Aggravated criminal intimidation
- Section 308(2): Extortion
This comprehensive legal action reflects the serious nature of the allegations, combining sexual violence with psychological manipulation and financial exploitation.
The case has raised concerns about campus safety and the vulnerability of students to predatory behavior, particularly when perpetrators use deception to establish relationships. University authorities have yet to comment on whether they will implement additional security measures or support systems for affected students.
As the investigation continues, police are examining digital evidence and witness statements to build a strong case. The judicial process will determine the final outcome, but this arrest marks a significant step in addressing gender-based violence in educational settings.
