The legal feud surrounding the estate of the late industrialist Sunjay Kapur has intensified with fresh and serious allegations from his mother, Rani Kapur. In a hearing at the Delhi High Court, Rani Kapur's legal team accused Sunjay's third wife, Priya Sachdev Kapur, of concealing massive assets, moving wealth abroad, and orchestrating a questionable will that excludes the family matriarch entirely.
Allegations of Massive Financial Concealment
During the proceedings on Monday, December 2, 2025, Rani Kapur's counsel, Vaibhav Gaggar, presented startling financial discrepancies. He stated that while Sunjay Kapur drew an annual salary of Rs 60 crore and held a valuable 6.5% stake in Sona Comstar worth approximately Rs 650 crore, Priya Sachdev's submissions to the court showed only Rs 1.7 crore in his bank accounts.
"This is a massive concealment," argued Gaggar. He highlighted the family's farmhouse in Delhi's Rajokri area, built by Rani's late husband, which houses over 50 pieces of artwork. The counsel questioned how a man with such a high income and assets could reportedly have no life insurance, rental income, or significant mutual funds.
Clarification on Karisma Kapoor's Children and the RK Trust
Addressing claims about Sunjay Kapur's children with ex-wife Karisma Kapoor, Samaira and Kiaan, Rani Kapur's side clarified a key point. The counsel asserted that the Rs 1,900 crore worth of shares the children received came from the RK Trust, a family trust where Rani Kapur is the settlor and controlling beneficiary.
"It is not for him (Sunjay) to bequeath... so this entire thing to say there's fairness in the will is wrong," the lawyer submitted. He emphasized that the transfer was managed through the trust and was neither Priya's nor Sunjay's personal gift to give, directly countering any narrative of Priya's benevolence in the matter.
Fresh Accusations: Overseas Transfers and a Contested Will
The allegations took a more serious turn with claims of international fund movement. Rani Kapur's counsel urged the court to investigate the financial flows of both Sunjay Kapur and Priya over the past two years, alleging that "the money has moved across borders." He requested a status quo ante order to prevent further dissipation of assets.
A central point of contention is the will itself. Rani Kapur, 80, was not mentioned in the document that leaves Sunjay's entire estate to Priya. Her counsel expressed deep hurt and suspicion, stating, "If he truly intended to leave me out, he would have said so expressly." He contrasted this with the will of Sunjay's father, Surinder Kapur, who left everything to Rani after a 40-year marriage, calling Priya's comparison invalid given her seven-year marriage to Sunjay.
Further doubts were cast on the will's witnesses. Rani's lawyers alleged that one witness, Dinesh Aggarwal, was appointed director of a family company a day after Sunjay's death in June and works at Priya's "dictate," suggesting a lack of impartiality.
The Core of the Family's Grievance
Rani Kapur's emotional plea in a September hearing encapsulated the family's stance. She questioned how within three months of marriage, Sunjay's entire estate was transferred to Priya. "My son today leaves me with no roof over my head? I am Rani Kapur," she had stated.
She also staked a claim to a significant portion of the estate, asserting that assets worth Rs 10,000 crore from Sunjay's estimated Rs 30,000 crore wealth rightfully belong to her, stemming from the company built by her husband.
The case, which also involves Karisma Kapoor's children accusing Priya of forging the will, continues to unfold in the Delhi High Court, revealing a complex web of familial discord, vast wealth, and serious legal accusations.
