Surat Family of Three Found Dead in Apartment, Gas Geyser Blamed
In a tragic incident in Surat, a couple and their 13-year-old son were discovered deceased at their residence on Tuesday. The Lalgate police have indicated that preliminary investigations point towards asphyxiation caused by a gas-fired geyser as the likely cause of death.
Details of the Deceased and the Incident
The victims have been identified as Saiyed Faiz, aged 40, his wife Mubina, 35, and their son Noman, 13. The family resided in an apartment located on Soi street within the Haripura area of Surat. According to police reports, Faiz was engaged in a chemical trading business alongside his two brothers in the city.
The family had recently returned to India from Saudi Arabia after undertaking a pilgrimage, adding a layer of sorrow to the unfortunate event. Police Inspector N M Chaudhary from Lalgate police station provided details, stating, "The family lived on the third floor of the building. Upon inspection of the bedroom, we observed that a gas geyser was installed, with its connection extending into the attached bathroom. The geyser was found to be operational at the time."
Discovery and Initial Findings
The grim discovery was made when Noman's cousin, Khalil, arrived at the apartment to accompany him to a madrasa. After receiving no response despite repeated knocks and phone calls, Khalil returned home and alerted his father. Subsequently, Faiz's brother, Usman Saiyed, along with others, forced open the door and found the three bodies lying on the floor.
A police team promptly arrived at the scene following notification. Initial examinations revealed no signs of struggle, injury, or indications of poison consumption, as confirmed by police sources. A forensics team was dispatched to collect samples for further analysis, while the bodies were transferred to the New Civil Hospital for a post-mortem examination to ascertain the exact cause of death.
Medical and Police Assessment
Doctors at the New Civil Hospital have preliminarily attributed the deaths to asphyxiation. Inspector Chaudhary emphasized, "Medical professionals have indicated that the primary cause appears to be asphyxiation, likely due to the gas geyser's emissions in the enclosed space." This incident highlights potential safety concerns associated with gas appliances in residential settings.
The police are continuing their investigation to rule out any other possibilities, but current evidence strongly suggests an accidental tragedy linked to the geyser. The community has been left in shock, with authorities urging residents to ensure proper ventilation and regular maintenance of gas-based installations to prevent similar occurrences.
