The Dakshina Kannada district administration has established dedicated teams to monitor and prevent illegal slaughter of animals, with strict measures including property seizure for violations. Deputy Commissioner Darshan HV has directed authorities to take appropriate actions against unauthorized slaughter, transport of camels and cattle, and illegal meat sales.
Committee Meeting on Bakrid Preparations
Presiding over a district-level committee meeting at the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) office, the Deputy Commissioner addressed the prevention of unauthorized cattle slaughter and transport during the Bakrid festival. He emphasized the need for vigilance and coordination among departments to ensure compliance with regulations.
Mandatory Permits and Documentation
It is now mandatory to obtain permission from the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services for any cattle transport. Vigilance must be maintained at all checkpoints, where vehicles transporting cattle will be thoroughly inspected. Required documents include permits, details of cattle owners and buyers, vehicle records, and driver information. The DC stressed that these documents must be verified without exception.
“If unauthorized animal slaughter is found in any buildings, such buildings should be seized according to regulations,” he stated. A district-level committee has been formed to prevent illegal cattle transport and slaughter, and committee members have been instructed to take immediate action. He also called for coordinated efforts among all relevant departments.
Key officials present at the meeting included Chief Veterinary Officer Dr. Ashok KR, ASP Anil Kumar, and others. The administration aims to enforce strict compliance and ensure a peaceful Bakrid festival without illegal activities.
