Teenager Fatally Stabbed, Another Critically Injured in Wedding Ceremony Altercation
A tragic incident unfolded late Friday night in outer Delhi's Rani Bagh area, where a 17-year-old boy was allegedly murdered and another left critically injured following a stabbing during a wedding ceremony. The event, which was meant to be a joyous celebration, turned violent around 11:15 pm, casting a shadow over the community.
Dispute Over Connections Escalates into Fatal Violence
According to police reports, the altercation began as a quarrel between two groups of minor boys, approximately 12 years old, who were attending the wedding from the same side. The dispute reportedly originated from a disagreement over their respective connections to the couple, quickly escalating into a heated argument. As tensions mounted, older boys present at the venue became involved, further intensifying the situation.
During the ensuing scuffle, one of the boys allegedly stabbed the 17-year-old victim in the chest, inflicting a fatal injury to his heart. Another boy was also attacked in the chaos. Both victims were rushed to a nearby hospital, where the 17-year-old was declared dead upon arrival, while the other continues to receive medical treatment for his critical injuries.
Friend Suggests Victim May Have Tried to Intervene
A friend of the deceased provided insight into the possible motives behind the attack, stating that the victim might have stepped in to defuse the situation. "He must have tried to intervene when the fight broke out. An older individual present there saw the commotion and may have assumed he was involved in hitting the children. They did not actually know whether he was attacking anyone," the friend explained, highlighting the tragic misunderstanding that may have led to the fatal stabbing.
Police Refute Initial Reports, Arrest Suspects
While some initial reports suggested that the altercation was triggered by a dispute over music being played by the DJ, a senior police officer refuted these claims. The officer clarified that the argument stemmed from a minor disagreement between the groups, emphasizing the senseless nature of the violence. In response to the incident, police have apprehended four minors and an adult in connection with the case. The weapon used in the crime—a kitchen knife allegedly taken from the function venue—has been seized as part of the ongoing investigation.
