The Panchkula police have arrested the third accused in the Swiss Lounge firing case, Sumit Kumar, alias Lalla, from Jalandhar on Friday. He was produced before a court, which remanded him in four-day police custody until July 14.
Role of the accused in the attack
During the investigation, the police found that Sumit had allegedly provided cash and mobile phones to the main shooters to facilitate the attack. The police said the accused would be questioned about the conspiracy, financial support, absconding suspects and the wider criminal network involved in the case.
Details of the incident
The incident took place around midnight of June 3 when unidentified assailants opened fire on Ratan Chand and Lalit in the parking area of Swiss Lounge in Sector 5 here. Ratan Chand sustained bullet injuries to his back and arm, while Lalit suffered a gunshot wound to his shoulder. Both were admitted to a hospital.
Evidence and initial investigation
During the initial investigation, the police recovered seven bullet shells and two live cartridges from the spot. The complainant, Narender Lubana, alleged that his brother, Ratan Chand, had been receiving extortion threats.
Previous arrests and ongoing probe
Earlier, the police had arrested Harpreet Singh, alias Happy, and Jaswinder Singh, alias Gora, after an encounter. Their interrogation revealed several leads in the case. The police said they would continue questioning Sumit about other gang members, absconding accused, financial transactions, the supply of weapons, procurement of mobile phones and the criminal network behind the attack.
