Bengaluru: Three men have been arrested by VV Puram police for going on a rampage in the early hours, threatening and assaulting passers-by with wooden logs and smashing parked two-wheelers in a shocking display of hooliganism. The incident occurred on Magadi Venkatappa Road on May 20. CCTV footage capturing their acts went viral on social media, prompting police to register a suo motu case and arrest the trio identified as Abhishek, 26, Puneeth, 25, and Umesh, 25.
Sequence of Events
The rampage stemmed from a family dispute. Abhishek allegedly assaulted his sister-in-law for lodging a complaint against his brother over domestic violence a month ago. The woman had an inter-religious marriage with Abhishek’s brother six years ago. After the complaint, the brother left the house, while the woman continued to stay on one floor of the in-laws' house.
Abhishek blamed her for the issues and insisted she leave. On May 19, he allegedly fought with her and assaulted her. Fearing further harm, she went to her maternal house. Later that night, Abhishek and his friends, allegedly under the influence of alcohol, went near her house and created a ruckus on the road.
Assault and Property Damage
Around 4 a.m. on May 20, they stopped a passer-by named Vignesh, assaulted him with a wooden log, and threatened to kill him. They then turned their aggression towards vehicles parked outside a residence, damaging multiple two-wheelers, causing property damage and leaving residents terrified.
The trio was arrested on May 23 and remanded to judicial custody. Abhishek’s sister-in-law also filed a complaint alleging assault.
