Panic spread in Rae Bareli after three unidentified bodies — two men and a woman — were recovered from the Indira Canal near Malpur village under the Bachhrawan police station area on Friday.
Discovery of Bodies
According to police, villagers spotted the bodies floating in the canal near the Banda-Bahraich highway around 8 am and alerted authorities. Police teams from Bachhrawan and Shivgarh police stations rushed to the spot and pulled the bodies out of the water.
Condition of the Deceased
Officials said all three bodies were found in a semi-nude condition and appeared to be around 10 days old. Preliminary estimates suggest that one of the deceased men was around 50 years old, the second around 40, while the woman was believed to be nearly 35 years old.
Investigation Underway
Police attempted to establish the identities of the deceased, but no identification could be made immediately. Police started contacting nearby police stations and checking missing persons’ records to ascertain the identities of the deceased and determine the circumstances leading to their deaths.
The authorities have registered a case and are investigating the possibility of foul play. Further details are awaited as the probe continues.
