A court in Pernem, Goa, has issued a summons to a tourist from Uttarakhand, directing him to appear before the principal district and sessions court later this month. The case pertains to a tragic incident of alleged drunk driving that resulted in the death of a pedestrian in June of last year.
Court Directs Accused to Appear
The Pernem court has ordered Arvind Rawat, the accused tourist, to present himself before the higher court on January 28. This legal step follows the filing of a chargesheet in a case where Rawat is alleged to have been driving under the influence of alcohol, leading to a fatal chain of events.
Details of the Tragic Incident
According to the prosecution's case, the incident occurred on June 14, 2025, at around 4 pm. It is alleged that Rawat, under the influence of alcohol and without a valid driving licence, was operating a vehicle in a rash and negligent manner near the Arambol parking lot entry point.
His speeding car first struck a 71-year-old male pedestrian, Hanumant Annasaheb Kadam, a resident of Mumbai. The collision's force did not stop there. The vehicle then proceeded to dash into three parked cars, a scooter, and finally crashed into an electricity pole before coming to a halt.
Aftermath and Legal Proceedings
The injured Hanumant Kadam was rushed to a nearby hospital for urgent medical attention. Tragically, he was declared brought dead upon arrival. The prosecution has built its case on charges of driving under intoxication, negligence, and causing death due to reckless driving.
The upcoming court appearance on January 28 will be a critical juncture in this case, which highlights the grave consequences of drunk driving. The legal process aims to deliver justice for the victim and his family.
