A tragic road accident in Ludhiana's Jamalpur area claimed the life of a 45-year-old trader on Tuesday. The victim, identified as Rajesh Kumar, a resident of Haibowal, was returning home on his motorcycle when a speeding tipper truck struck him near the Jamalpur Chowk.
Incident Details
The accident occurred around 7:30 PM when Rajesh was crossing the intersection. The tipper, which was coming from the opposite direction, hit his motorcycle with such force that Rajesh was thrown off the vehicle. He sustained severe head injuries and was rushed to the Civil Hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.
Police Response
Upon receiving information, a police team from the Jamalpur police station reached the spot and seized the tipper truck. The driver managed to flee the scene. A case under sections 279 (rash driving) and 304A (causing death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code has been registered against the unidentified driver.
Police are scanning CCTV footage from nearby cameras to identify the accused. The body has been handed over to the family after post-mortem.
Family's Grief
Rajesh Kumar, who ran a small grocery shop in Haibowal, is survived by his wife and two teenage children. His family members have demanded strict action against the driver and better traffic management in the area to prevent such incidents.
