Truck kills labourer in Gandhinagar, family devastated

A devastating road accident in Gujarat's Gandhinagar district has claimed the life of a young farm labourer, leaving his family, including three minor daughters, shattered. The incident occurred when the victim was on an errand to get medicine for his sick child.

A Father's Fatal Errand

Dilip Nayka, a 27-year-old agricultural worker, originally hailed from Chhota Udepur district but lived with his family near Deep Patel's borewell in the Daboda area. On Wednesday, his day began with concern for his four-year-old daughter, who was suffering from a cough. Nayka took her, along with his elder daughter, to a government hospital in a Vadodara village for treatment.

After the hospital visit, around 11:15 AM, Nayka was walking with his two daughters near the outskirts of the village, close to a junction. It was at this moment that tragedy struck. A truck, allegedly speeding and being driven rashly from the Vadodara Patia side, hit him from behind.

The Impact and Aftermath

The force of the collision was severe. "The impact was severe and the victim sustained serious injuries to his body and abdomen," confirmed a police officer. Alert local residents rushed to the spot and called for emergency services. Nayka was quickly shifted to Gandhinagar Civil Hospital via a 108 ambulance. Despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries during treatment.

In a poignant turn of events, two unidentified youths later visited the family's residence to inform Nayka's wife about the accident and assisted her in reaching the hospital. The police have highlighted the profound loss, noting that the death has devastated the family, with three minor daughters now losing their father and sole breadwinner.

Legal Action and Community Grief

Following the incident, the Daboda police have taken swift legal action. They have registered a case against the truck driver under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for rash and negligent driving causing death. The case underscores the continuing menace of reckless driving on Indian roads, which claims countless lives and leaves families in perpetual grief.

The accident spot near the Vadodara village junction has once again become a grim reminder of the need for stricter road safety measures. The community is left mourning the loss of a young father whose final act was one of care for his ailing child.
