Two Brothers Booked for Abetting Suicide in Ludhiana

In a tragic incident highlighting the devastating impact of drug abuse and harassment, the Dehlon police station in Ludhiana has registered a case of abetment to suicide against two brothers. The accused, identified as Ashu Singh and Sajan Singh, both residents of Ghurgrana village, are alleged to have driven a 28-year-old man to take his own life by constantly demanding money for their drug addiction.

Case Registered at Dehlon Police Station

According to the police, the case was registered based on a complaint filed by Hakam Singh, the father of the deceased. In his complaint, Hakam Singh stated that his son, Harmandeep Singh, had been in contact with the two brothers. The duo repeatedly demanded money from Harmandeep to satisfy their drug habits. When he refused to comply, they subjected him to persistent harassment and mental torture.

Victim’s Father Details Harassment

The father recounted that the mental agony caused by the accused had pushed his son into a state of prolonged stress and depression. Unable to bear the torment, Harmandeep resorted to hanging himself at a tubewell room on the Ludhiana-Malerkotla road near Lehra village. The complaint underscores the severe impact of drug-related coercion on vulnerable individuals.

Search and Discovery of Body

On July 24, Harmandeep left home, telling his family he was going to work, but did not return until late evening. Concerned, his family began searching for him. Their frantic search led them to a tubewell room, where they discovered his body hanging from an iron pipe fixed in the wall. The family immediately approached the police, alleging that the harassment by Ashu and Sajan left Harmandeep with no alternative.

Police Investigation Underway

Police officials have confirmed that an investigation is in progress and that further action will be taken based on the findings. Raids are being conducted to locate and apprehend the accused brothers. The case has been registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code pertaining to abetment to suicide.

The incident sheds light on the nexus between drug addiction and crime in the region. Authorities urge the public to report any instances of harassment or coercion, especially those linked to substance abuse, to prevent such tragedies.
