Two daycare nannies in Bengaluru have been arrested on charges of child abuse, following an investigation triggered by videos sent to the child welfare department through WhatsApp. The arrests were confirmed by police on 03 July 2026.
Details of the Incident
The accused women were working as caretakers at a daycare facility in Bengaluru where the alleged abuse took place. Authorities acted swiftly after receiving video evidence that showed the nannies mistreating children under their care.
According to police officials, the videos were anonymously sent to the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) via WhatsApp, prompting an immediate inquiry. The CWC then alerted the local police, who registered a case and arrested the two women.
Legal Action and Investigation
The nannies have been booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act. They are currently in police custody and are being interrogated to ascertain if there were other victims or accomplices.
"We received the videos and immediately forwarded them to the police. The swift action led to the arrests within 24 hours," said a CWC member. The police are also investigating the daycare center's management for possible negligence.
Impact on Child Safety Regulations
This case has reignited concerns over child safety in daycare facilities across Bengaluru. Parents have demanded stricter background checks and surveillance mechanisms. The state government has announced plans to review licensing norms for daycare centers.
Child rights activists have called for mandatory CCTV installation and regular inspections. "Such incidents highlight the need for stringent regulations and awareness among parents," said an activist.
The daycare center where the abuse occurred has been temporarily shut down pending further investigation. The arrested nannies are expected to be produced in court soon.
