Two Separate Road Accidents in Trichy Result in Fatalities

Trichy witnessed two tragic road accidents on Sunday, leading to the deaths of a woman and an elderly man. Police authorities are actively investigating both cases to determine the exact causes and identify those responsible.

First Accident Near Airport Claims Woman's Life

In the first incident, a couple riding a scooter met with a fatal accident near the Trichy airport. M Sivabalan, aged 46, was driving the scooter with his wife S Sridevi, aged 44, as his pillion rider. They were residents of Navalpattu.

Around 8 PM on Sunday, Sivabalan attempted to cross the Trichy-Pudukkottai National Highway. A sedan car approaching from behind collided with their scooter at that moment.

The impact threw Sridevi onto the road. She sustained severe head injuries in the crash. Bystanders rushed her to the Trichy Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital for emergency treatment.

Doctors at MGMGH examined her upon arrival. Unfortunately, they declared her dead. Medical professionals could not revive her due to the critical nature of her injuries.

A police source familiar with the case mentioned poor illumination along that stretch of road. Inadequate lighting might have contributed to this tragic accident, according to preliminary assessments.

Second Incident at Puthur Junction Proves Fatal for Elderly Man

In a separate accident earlier on Sunday morning, an elderly pedestrian lost his life. A Manickam, aged 82 and a resident of Ayilappettai, was crossing the road at Puthur junction.

An unidentified vehicle struck Manickam while he was crossing. The driver did not stop at the scene, leaving the victim injured on the road.

Local people noticed Manickam and quickly admitted him to MGMGH for medical care. He received treatment throughout Sunday, but his condition remained serious.

Manickam succumbed to his injuries on Monday morning. Hospital officials confirmed his death after efforts to save him proved unsuccessful.

Police have launched an investigation into this hit-and-run case. Officers are examining available CCTV footage from the area around Puthur junction.

They hope to identify the vehicle involved in the accident through video evidence. The search for the responsible driver continues as part of their ongoing probe.

Police Response and Ongoing Investigations

Trichy police are handling both accident cases with urgency. Teams have visited the accident sites to collect evidence and record statements from witnesses.

Authorities emphasize the need for improved road safety measures in the city. They point to factors like poor lighting and reckless driving as potential causes.

Families of both victims are receiving support from local officials. The police assure the public that they will pursue these investigations thoroughly to deliver justice.

These incidents highlight the ongoing challenges with road safety in urban areas. Residents express concern over the frequency of such accidents in Trichy.
