In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, the Amritsar police arrested two individuals near Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU) on Tuesday. The suspects were found in possession of a substantial quantity of charas and a considerable amount of drug money.
Details of the Operation
The police team, acting on a tip-off, laid a trap near the GNDU campus. The accused were intercepted while they were allegedly attempting to sell the contraband. During the search, officers recovered 500 grams of charas and cash amounting to Rs 50,000, believed to be proceeds from drug sales.
Arrested Individuals
The arrested individuals have been identified as Ravi Kumar, a resident of the nearby locality, and his accomplice, Gurpreet Singh. Both have previous records of involvement in drug-related activities. They were booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Police Statement
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Amritsar stated that the operation was part of an ongoing drive to curb drug abuse in the city. He emphasized that strict action would be taken against anyone involved in the illegal drug trade. The police are also investigating the source of the contraband and the network of the accused.
