The city of Surat was left in shock after two separate incidents of brutal murder, stemming from seemingly trivial disputes, rocked the areas of Dindoli and Kapodra within hours of each other. Police have swiftly acted, arresting one person in connection with the Dindoli case and four individuals for the Kapodra killing.
Dindoli Murder: A Fatal Comment on a Friend's Wife
In a tragic turn of events in the Dindoli area, 32-year-old Umashankar Singh, a resident of Radhakrishna Nagar Society, lost his life after a quarrel with friends took a deadly turn. The incident unfolded in the early hours of Thursday. Singh's wife, Ruchi, called him around 1:30 am, to which he replied that he was sitting with his friends, Anshu and Dillu Yadav, near Mansi Residency.
Singh informed his wife that he would be late as they had quarreled over some issue. When he did not return by morning, a worried Ruchi asked his friend Suraj to check. Suraj discovered that Singh had been brutally attacked and admitted to SMIMER Hospital. Despite medical efforts, Singh succumbed to his injuries by evening.
Police investigation revealed that the fatal argument allegedly began when Singh made a comment about the character of Anshu's wife. Enraged, Anshu attacked Singh with a blunt weapon, kicks, and punches. The Dindoli police have successfully arrested the main accused, Anshu, while efforts are on to apprehend his accomplice, Dillu Yadav.
Kapodra Killing: Old Grudge Erupts into Deadly Street Fight
In a separate and equally violent episode in Kapodra on Thursday evening, Mangal Yadav alias Baarik was killed following a clash that escalated rapidly. Yadav was standing near Ravani Factory with his friends Himmat Hadiya and Nitin Chavda when Tarak Mangukiya and Jaivin Sabhadiya arrived at the scene around 6 pm.
The two groups began fighting over an old grudge. The situation worsened when Mangukiya started recording a video, which Yadav and his friends objected to. This led to a physical assault on Hadiya. When Yadav and Chavda tried to intervene, two more associates of the accused—Rahul Navadiya and Yagnik Joshi—joined the fray.
The violence reached its peak when Rahul Navadiya pulled out a bladed weapon. He stabbed Nitin Chavda in the stomach and Himmat Hadiya in the hand. In a horrific sequence, Joshi, Sabhadiya, and Mangukiya then held Mangal Yadav while Navadiya stabbed him repeatedly. The four accused fled the scene, but Yadav was rushed to SMIMER Hospital where he was declared dead.
Police Action and City on Edge
Surat police have acted decisively in both cases, demonstrating a commitment to swift justice. In the Kapodra murder case, all four accused—Tarak Mangukiya, Jaivin Sabhadiya, Rahul Navadiya, and Yagnik Joshi—have been taken into custody. The arrests have brought some measure of relief, but the incidents have highlighted how minor disagreements can spiral into fatal violence, leaving families devastated and the community concerned.
These back-to-back killings in different parts of the city serve as a grim reminder of the consequences of unchecked anger and the settling of personal scores through violence. The police continue their investigations to ensure all aspects of the cases are thoroughly examined.
