The deceased have been identified as Varadhan, 85, a farmer, and his wife Govindammal, 69, residents of Podavur village in Kancheepuram district. They were accompanied by their younger son-in-law, Raman, 37, who was driving the vehicle. The family was en route to attend a family function in Maduranthakam, Chengalpet district, when the accident took place.
According to police reports, as the car approached Thiruppulivanam village, the front left tyre burst unexpectedly. This caused Raman to lose control of the vehicle, which then veered off the road and collided with a roadside palm tree. The impact was severe, resulting in the immediate deaths of Varadhan, who was seated in the front passenger seat, and Govindammal, who was in the rear seat.
