The suspect was allegedly plotting to assassinate a prominent female political leader in the state. According to officials, the accused had been in contact with handlers across the border and was planning to carry out the attack using a country-made pistol.

The ATS conducted a raid in Azamgarh based on intelligence inputs and apprehended the suspect, identified as Mohammad Shahnawaz. A country-made pistol and several rounds of ammunition were recovered from his possession.
