The Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) in Vadodara has successfully dismantled an inter-state criminal network originating from Uttar Pradesh, which was specifically targeting women for chain snatching incidents in the city. Police have arrested one key member, while three of his accomplices remain at large.
Modus Operandi of the Interstate Gang
Authorities were probing two separate incidents reported in June and November, where two women were robbed of their gold chains near Kala Darshan crossroads and in the Harni area. In both cases, the perpetrators were two men on a motorcycle.
Investigations pointed towards the involvement of a notorious group from Uttar Pradesh, known as the 'Bavariya gang'. This four-member team would travel over 800 kilometers to Vadodara with the sole intention of committing thefts.
Their method was systematic: They would arrive near the Halol toll plaza and park their car in a secluded spot. Two members, including the arrested accused Majorsingh Jogasingh, would stay with the car. The other two would then steal motorcycles to use in the actual crimes.
Police Crackdown and Arrest
After conducting reconnaissance of various areas, the duo on the stolen motorcycle would target women at isolated locations. Following the snatching, they would abandon the motorcycle, reunite with their partners waiting in the car, and swiftly flee back to their home state of Uttar Pradesh.
Following crucial leads, the police traced the vehicle used in the crimes to Majorsingh Jogasingh. A dedicated police team then traveled to Shamli district in Uttar Pradesh, located the car, and placed Jogasingh under arrest.
During interrogation, Jogasingh confessed to his role in the crimes. He identified his three accomplices as Nitin Bavariya, Sanjay Bavariya, and Senti Vadhera. Jogasingh and Vadhera would typically wait in the car, while Nitin and Sanjay executed the chain snatchings.
Criminal History and Ongoing Manhunt
The police revealed that the absconding members have extensive criminal records. Nitin Bavariya has 11 cases registered against him in Uttar Pradesh, while Sanjay Bavariya is accused in at least 10 cases across Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and Rajasthan.
The Vadodara police are now coordinating with their counterparts in Uttar Pradesh and other states to apprehend the three fugitives. This bust highlights the challenges posed by mobile, inter-state criminal gangs and the coordinated efforts required to tackle them.
