The UT Vigilance Cell apprehended Gaurav, an outsourced clerk working with the CPWD, CP Division No. 2, Chandigarh, on Wednesday evening for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 30,000. The bribe was sought to process the pension and other financial benefits of the complainant's father.
FIR registered under Prevention of Corruption Act
Based on a formal complaint, an FIR under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act was registered at the vigilance police station in Chandigarh. The vigilance cell then laid a trap near the Old UT Secretariat Building in Sector 9, Chandigarh, where the accused was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe money in the presence of two independent witnesses.
Chandigarh Administration urges citizens to report corruption
The Chandigarh Administration has reiterated its appeal to citizens to refrain from paying bribes. Officials stated that if any government employee demands a bribe, the matter should be immediately reported to the vigilance cell for prompt action.
According to a spokesperson, the administration maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards corruption and encourages the public to come forward with any information regarding corrupt practices.
