The Uttarakhand High Court has issued a contempt notice to Neena Grewal, the Managing Director of the Uttarakhand Forest Development Corporation (UAFDC), for failing to comply with a previous court order. The court has directed her to file a response within four weeks, explaining why contempt proceedings should not be initiated against her.
Background of the Case
A single bench of Justice Rakesh Thapliyal was hearing a contempt petition filed by seven retired employees of the corporation. The petitioners, including Tara Arya and others, had retired from positions such as scaler and chowkidar at UAFDC.
According to the petitioners, the government had initially granted them a grade pay of Rs 5,400 but later issued recovery orders to reclaim the amount. The employees challenged this action in court.
Previous Court Order
On November 26, 2025, the single bench had stayed the recovery orders and directed the corporation to clear all pending dues within 90 days. However, the order was not complied with, prompting the contempt petition.
The court noted the non-compliance and issued a contempt notice to the Managing Director. The notice requires her to explain why she should not be held in contempt for disobeying the court's directive.
The case highlights the importance of adherence to judicial orders, especially those concerning the rights of retired employees. The court has scheduled the next hearing after four weeks, giving time for the MD to respond.
