A man from Vadodara has been sentenced to life imprisonment for the brutal murder of his wife and young daughter. The additional sessions court in Vadodara convicted Tejas Patel after the prosecution presented compelling evidence proving his guilt in the double murder case.
Background of the Case
Tejas Patel, who worked as a salesman at an electronic goods showroom, was arrested in 2021. According to the case details, Patel had a strained relationship with his wife, Shobhana. The primary reason for their marital discord was Patel's interest in another woman, compounded by frequent arguments between Shobhana and her in-laws. These factors drove Patel to plan the murder of his wife and their six-year-old daughter, Kavya.
The Night of the Crime
On the night of October 10, 2021, Patel procured rat poison and mixed it into ice cream. He then served the poisoned ice cream to Shobhana and Kavya at their residence in the Sama area of Vadodara. After both victims lost consciousness due to the poison, Patel strangled his wife and smothered his daughter to death.
Discovery and Investigation
The following day, Patel pretended to be unaware of the incident and informed relatives that his wife and daughter were not waking up. They were rushed to a private hospital, where doctors declared them dead. Autopsies revealed traces of poison in their bodies, and doctors also noticed marks on Shobhana's neck. Suspicious, the police questioned Patel, who broke down and confessed to the murders.
Investigators discovered that Patel had searched the internet for phrases like 'easy ways of killing and poisoning,' indicating premeditation. The prosecution argued that the murders were carefully planned and executed.
Court Verdict
The court found Patel guilty of double murder and sentenced him to life imprisonment. Additionally, he was fined Rs 25,000. The judgment underscores the gravity of the crime and the importance of justice for the victims.
