Varanasi Police Apprehend Wanted Accused in Elaborate Silver Coin Robbery Scheme

In a significant development, the Bhadohi police on Wednesday arrested another wanted accused, who carried a reward of Rs 5,000, for his involvement in a sophisticated robbery conspiracy. The accused was apprehended for allegedly luring his maternal uncle's son into a fraudulent silver coin buying and selling scheme, resulting in the theft of a substantial sum of money.

Recovery of Cash and Previous Arrests

During the arrest, the police successfully recovered Rs 10,320 in cash from the possession of the accused. This arrest follows earlier police actions where a sub-inspector, Suresh Prasad Saxena, a home guard named Satyaprakash Yadav, and a local resident, Rajbahadur Singh, were taken into custody in connection with the same case.

Details of the Complaint and Alleged Conspiracy

According to official reports, the incident began when Ashish Singh Raghuvanshi, a resident of Bhairav Nagar colony in the Daulatpur Pokhra Pandeypur locality, filed a formal complaint at the Gopiganj police station. He accused Amarbahadur Singh, also known as Murli Singh, a resident of Nonkhara Devpalpur village in the Jansa police station area, of orchestrating the robbery.

Ashish Singh Raghuvanshi alleged that on November 21, 2025, he accompanied his aunt's sons, Murli Singh and Rajbahadur Singh, to purchase seven kilograms of silver. Upon arriving at a tea shop near the Kaulapur overbridge, they met Rajendra Singh, a friend of Rajbahadur Singh, who was already present with a bag containing bricks and stones.

When Ashish Singh Raghuvanshi was pressured to hand over Rs 5 lakh, he insisted on seeing the silver first. Suddenly, two individuals arrived, claiming to be officers from the Crime Branch, and forcibly took his bag, which contained the Rs 5 lakh. It was at this moment that Ashish Singh Raghuvanshi realized he had been looted as part of a premeditated conspiracy.

Legal Proceedings and Police Investigation

In response to the complaint, a case was registered at the Gopiganj police station under sections 61(2), 309(4), 318(4), 319(2), and 317(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Legal proceedings were promptly initiated to address the serious allegations.

Acting on a crucial tip-off, the Gopiganj police arrested Amarbahadur Singh, alias Murli Singh. During interrogation, he confessed to deceiving Ashish Singh Raghuvanshi by fabricating a story about an old house demolition where seven kilograms of old silver coins were supposedly discovered. The silver coins were falsely priced at Rs 80,000 per kilogram to make the deal appear legitimate.

Further investigation revealed that after a week of planning, the conspirators, including sub-inspector Suresh Prasad Saxena, coordinated to bring Ashish Singh Raghuvanshi to a tea shop near Shakti Dhaba on November 27, where the robbery was executed. The police continue to probe the involvement of all accused to uncover the full extent of this elaborate criminal network.
