The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) has arrested a Food and Civil Supplies Department inspector and a junior auditor on charges of demanding and accepting bribes. Inspector Rajneesh Rampal, posted at Bhogpur, and junior auditor Manav Bhanot were taken into custody following a complaint lodged by a resident of Cheema Mandi, Sunam, on the Chief Minister’s Anti-Corruption Line.

Details of the Bribe

According to VB officials, Rampal had received Rs 50,000 from the complainant for fudging records related to the allotment of paddy for milling purposes. He later accepted a second instalment of Rs 20,000 as illegal gratification for himself and on behalf of Gurvinder Singh, Assistant Food and Supplies Officer (AFSO) at Bhogpur. Bhanot, meanwhile, received Rs 50,000 from the complainant as a bribe for himself and on behalf of Narinder Singh, District Controller of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs in Jalandhar.

Investigation and Further Action

The VB officials stated that the role of other suspected officers will be examined during the investigation. The arrests were made after a thorough probe into the complaint. The accused were produced in court and remanded to police custody for further interrogation. The VB has urged the public to report any instances of corruption through the Chief Minister’s Anti-Corruption Line.
