The Vigilance Investigation Bureau (VIB) in Patna made a significant arrest on Thursday, apprehending a revenue employee and a middleman for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 35,000 in Phulwari Sharif. The operation took place at the Mainpuranda panchayat bhawan, where the accused were caught red-handed.
Details of the Arrest
According to the VIB, the main accused, Rana Ranvijay Gopal, a revenue employee posted at Mainpuranda panchayat, was taken into custody while accepting the bribe. The middleman, Guddu Kumar, a resident of Anisabad under Gardanibagh police station area, was also arrested with Rs 10,000 in his possession. Both individuals were nabbed from the Mainpuranda panchayat bhawan during the raid.
Complaint and Verification
The complainant, Praveen Kumar Suman, a resident of Bikram, had lodged a complaint with the VIB on June 3. He alleged that the duo had demanded money for submitting a report to facilitate the removal of alleged encroachments by four houses on the main road near his plot. The VIB verified the complaint and found evidence of the demand, leading to the registration of an FIR.
A trap team was constituted under the leadership of DSP Rishita Sneh. The team conducted a meticulously planned raid and successfully arrested both accused individuals along with the bribe amount.
Legal Proceedings
The accused will be produced before the special vigilance court in Patna on Friday after interrogation. The VIB has stated that further investigation is underway to uncover any additional details or accomplices involved in the case.
