Wedding Celebration Turns Violent in Greater Noida Over Ritual Dispute
A joyous wedding celebration in Greater Noida descended into chaos and violence on Friday night when a disagreement over a traditional ritual escalated into a brutal assault, leaving six members of a family critically injured. The incident occurred in the Dadri area, specifically in Rampur village, during a marriage procession, according to police reports.
Violence Erupts During Traditional Ceremony
The conflict reportedly ignited during a ritual that is traditionally performed by the eldest member of the family as part of the wedding procession. An argument broke out over the execution of this ceremony, which quickly spiraled out of control. A police officer detailed the sequence of events, stating that one group retrieved sticks from their vehicles and launched a violent attack on the other.
All six injured individuals, including a 73-year-old elder, are currently undergoing medical treatment for their serious wounds. The victims were part of a group that had traveled from Jaganpur to attend the wedding, led by a man named Devendra.
Detailed Account of the Assault
In his formal complaint to the authorities, Devendra provided a harrowing account of the attack. He identified a man named Leela, along with numerous accomplices, as the perpetrators who surrounded his family. The assailants were allegedly armed with an array of dangerous weapons, including pistols, hockey sticks, and iron rods.
The attackers not only physically assaulted the family but also issued death threats and vandalized the family's vehicles. Devendra himself sustained serious injuries during the onslaught, while his father and uncle lost consciousness as a result of the beating.
Police Response and Legal Action
Law enforcement officials have taken swift action in response to the violent episode. Two individuals, identified as Jitendra (son of Leela) and a relative named Yogesh, were arrested on Saturday. Furthermore, a First Information Report (FIR) has been registered against a total of 44 people.
The FIR includes 34 named individuals and approximately 10 to 15 unnamed persons. Charges have been filed under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including attempted murder and other serious offenses.
Historical Context and Ongoing Feud
The police investigation has revealed that this violent outburst is not an isolated incident but appears to be rooted in a longstanding family rivalry. Devendra informed the authorities that Leela's family had allegedly attempted to kill his relatives in a previous incident last year.
That case remains pending in court, and Devendra claims that the latest attack was a premeditated conspiracy directly linked to this ongoing dispute. This historical context adds a layer of complexity to what might otherwise appear as a spontaneous wedding altercation.
Visual Evidence and Scene Description
A video recording of the incident, accessed by media sources, provides disturbing visual evidence of the violence. The footage shows several men mercilessly beating another individual with sticks in the middle of a road.
Ironically, the scene unfolds with a groom's chariot standing abandoned nearby while wedding music continues to play in the background, creating a stark contrast between celebration and violence.
The Greater Noida police continue their investigation into this tragic turn of events at what should have been a festive occasion, working to ensure all perpetrators are brought to justice and such incidents are prevented in the future.
