Suspected Wire Thief Electrocuted in Bharatpur District
A suspected electricity wire thief was electrocuted while attempting to cut a live 33KV line in Bharatpur district late Saturday night, with an accomplice suffering severe burn injuries, according to police reports. The tragic incident unfolded in Ikran village under the jurisdiction of the Chiksana police station.
Fatal Encounter with High-Tension Line
Sunil, aged 30, died instantly upon contact with the high-voltage electricity line. His body remained suspended from the wire for approximately seven hours before local residents discovered it around 8 am on Sunday and alerted authorities. Police and electricity department officials promptly disconnected the power supply to safely retrieve the remains.
Assistant Sub Inspector Hukum Singh stated that police received information about "a body hanging from a 33KV line near an oil mill" and immediately rushed to the scene. Documents found on the deceased helped establish his identity, which was later confirmed by his father, Indrajeet, a resident of Krishna Dham Colony in Mathura.
Severe Injuries and Police Investigation
The post-mortem examination, conducted around 1 pm, confirmed electrocution as the cause of death. Police noted that the body was severely charred, with "one foot detached due to the intensity of the current." Meanwhile, the injured accomplice, Gaurav, suffered burns to his hand and was initially admitted to RBM Hospital before being transferred to Jaipur for specialized treatment under police surveillance.
During interrogation, Gaurav revealed that he and Sunil, along with others, had stolen electricity wires from the same area just four days prior. He explained that they returned around midnight on Saturday to repeat the theft when both came into contact with the live current. According to police, Sunil became stuck to the wire, while Gaurav was thrown aside; other accomplices then took Gaurav to the hospital before fleeing the scene.
History of Criminal Activity
Police indicated that Sunil and Gaurav are alleged habitual offenders involved in electricity wire theft, with four such cases already registered against Sunil. A Bolero vehicle parked near the incident site was seized, and authorities are actively working to trace six other alleged accomplices. Further investigation is underway to identify all individuals involved in this case.
The body was handed over to Sunil's family after the post-mortem, concluding a grim chapter in this ongoing criminal investigation.
